What is your actual, realistic morning routine?

Not your aspirational one. Your actual one.

I've read so many ADHD morning routine articles and they all describe something I have never once achieved. They assume I wake up at 6, have 90 minutes to spare, and feel motivated by my goals.

What does your real morning look like? The messy version. And what's the one thing that actually makes a difference?

Music. Same playlist every morning. When specific songs come on I know what stage of the routine I should be at. It completely replaced clock-watching and works so much better for my sense of time.

Honestly? I gave up on the idea of a 'good' morning and focused on making 'functional' easy. I'm out the door by 8:30. Some days I've had breakfast, some days I haven't. I accept that and just make sure the important stuff (medication, dressed, bag) is done.

I put my phone across the room from my bed. Sounds simple. I'm not reaching for it immediately when I wake up anymore. That alone recovered about 20 minutes.

Real version: alarm goes off three times. Eventually get up. Stumble to bathroom. Take medication immediately — this is the one non-negotiable. Drink water while it kicks in. By the time I've done basic hygiene, the medication is starting and I can function.

The thing that changed my mornings was doing everything possible the night before. Clothes out, bag packed, coffee machine ready to press a button. I removed every decision from the morning. Now it's just a sequence of automatic actions.
