Tried brown noise for the first time — not what I expected

Everyone in ADHD circles talks about brown noise like it's a revelation. I finally tried it yesterday for a proper work session.

Results: I didn't hate it. It was... fine? It definitely reduced the distraction from ambient noise in my apartment. But it didn't give me that 'locked in' feeling that people describe.

Maybe I had the volume wrong? I kept it relatively quiet — maybe 30% of my usual music volume. Or maybe it just doesn't work for my brain the way it does for others.

Anyone been through the calibration process? What did you change to make it click?

Try it for a week consistently. I didn't feel anything the first few sessions, then on day four something clicked and now I can't work without it. I don't know if I trained my brain or it just took time to adapt.

Honestly binaural beats work much better for me. Specifically 40hz gamma. Brown noise just... exists. Binaural beats seem to do something to my actual focus level.

I never got on with pure brown noise either. What works for me is brown noise mixed with very light ambient rain. The rain adds just enough variation that my brain has something to latch onto without it being distracting.

Volume matters a lot. I had to go much louder than felt comfortable at first. Not quite 'filling the room' but enough to genuinely cover ambient noise. At too low a volume it's kind of a nothing experience.
